What this is

knowtheroom runs alongside a live presentation. You upload a deck, we build the beats where the room will need help, people in the room join from their own phones and read cards written for them, and you get a recap afterwards. Nobody in the audience is asked anything.

Using the site or a session means these terms apply to you.

Your account

Accounts are created through Auth0. Keep your login to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has it.

The free plan covers one live session with up to 25 phones. Paid plans are described on the pricing page. We can change what the product does while it is this early, so do not build anything you could not present without.

Your deck stays yours

You keep every right in the deck you upload and in the cards generated from it. You give us permission to process that file only so far as we need to in order to run your session and show you your own reports.

Upload only material you have the right to upload. Do not upload anything confidential to someone else, or anything you are not allowed to share with the room you are about to present to.

If you present with it

Tell your room what is happening before you start. People should know that their phone will show them cards written from your deck, from what you say, and from public information about them, and that they can decline the public lookup when they join.

Do not use a session to single out or pressure anyone in the room, and do not upload a deck that names a member of the audience or discloses something about them. What you say to your audience is your responsibility, not ours.

Cards are generated automatically. You can read every beat and rule out any card type before you go live, and the live versions are written from those beats while you talk. Reviewing the beats is your job, because you are the one standing in front of the room.

If you are in the audience

Taking part is voluntary. You can put your phone away at any point and nothing happens. There is nothing for you to put into a session, and the presenter never sees your screen.

What we do not promise

The service is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available at any particular moment, which matters because you may be planning to use it while standing in front of a room. Have a version of your talk that works without it.

Generated cards and generated recaps can be wrong, and a card that cites an outside source can be out of date. Read them before you rely on them, and check anything you plan to repeat as fact.

We are not liable for how a session goes, for what your audience says, or for any loss that follows from using or not being able to use the service.

Changes and contact

If these terms change in a way that matters, we will change the date at the top of this page. Questions go to hello@knowtheroom.com.
